August 2015 Quarterly Meeting

Old World Wisconsin Takes You Back to the Past

All Aboard!

Ride The Rails Through The Cities Of Ozaukee County

Experience the early history of Ozaukee County railroads as told by Cedarburg resident Reid Van Sluys, in an informal presentation with emphasis on the Milwaukee and Northern Railroad, and the Milwaukee, Lake Shore and Western Railway. Van Sluys, a lifelong railroad fan, traces his interest in Ozaukee County’s railroads back to his childhood--growing up in Cedarburg in the 1960s and observing first-hand the Milwaukee Road operations. His special interest is the Milwaukee Road’s old Superior Division, and in particular, the Chicago-to-Houghton, Michigan, “Copper County Limited” passenger train, which ended its run in March, 1968.

In addition to belonging to several railroad historical societies and being a former museum professional, Van Sluys served seven years as Editor of “The SOO”, the quarterly magazine of the Soo Line Historical and Technical Society.

Our Quarterly Meeting will be held Monday, August 3rd, at the Cedarburg Cultural Center (W62 N546 Washington Ave.) in downtown Cedarburg. The business meeting begins at 7 pm, with the presentation starting at 7:30 pm. This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served and free, on-site parking is available.
