Shenandoah

Our 14th Production

Shenandoah opened on Broadway on January  7, 1975, and ran for two and one-half years, and 1,050 performances before it closed late in 1977.

The story was based on an original screenplay by the same name, which starred Jimmy Stewart in the part of Charlie Anderson.  Usually moves are based on stage plays, but Shenandoah is to this date the only stage musical based on a screenplay.

While on Broadway, Shenandoah was honored may times.  It was nominated for Best Musical by both the Drama Critics Circle and 'Tony' awards (but came in second to a A Chorus Line) and received two 'Tony' awards (Best Book of a Musical, and Best Actor in a Musical - John Cullum as Charlie) and was nominated for a total of six (6) awards.
