Alma is a native of Adams County, still living in the house in which she was born in Strong Prairie Township. She is a graduate of Adams Friendship High School and has taken courses it Mid State Tech in Wisconsin Rapids.

Alma and her husband Jim, who is employed by Consolidated Papers, have three children.

​Her hobbies include raising Pekingese dogs, cross country skiing, refinishing furniture, dancing, entertaining and travel.
